Disney Princess Wine Pairings

We’ve reached this point in quarantine, folks. My sister Olivia and I have been marking the passage of time by throwing ourselves little wine parties on Fridays, and over time, it’s actually given us a chance to sample quite a few wines. Being the Disney fans we are, it wasn’t long before we had the idea to post wine pairings for six of our favorite Disney Princess movies! We had so much fun putting this little guide together for you, and we hope you enjoy profiting from it as much as we enjoyed creating it!

Disclaimer: Possibly obvious from the title, but we are not mature ladies who have been drinking wine for decades and are now connoisseurs. These are accessible wines for girls like us, who are in our younger twenties and are still getting to know the world of wine.

Second Disclaimer: We’re not sorting these by region or anything like that. Our only criterion was how the wine made us “feel”. If the wine felt to us like the perfect wine to watch during a particular movie, we included it! We recognize that this is a very subjective method, so if you feel you have another option that would fit better, please leave a comment below!

Without further ado, here are the wines!

Tangled: Stella Rosa Golden Honey Peach
This wine is the perfect accompaniment for Tangled. In fact, it’s so perfect that it sparked the idea for this post! It’s a sweet, bubbly wine with strong notes of golden honey peach, just like the bottle says. It really captures Rapunzel’s effervescence and her joyful attitude toward life. To me, it tastes like the movie’s magical sundrop flower in wine form.

Olivia’s Commentary: Among countless other things, I love the way that Tangled depicts the height of summer so exquisitely! The flavors of this wine complement and build that image to perfection. This wine even looks the part with its golden color and the crowns and the stars/suns that decorate the label. Sum it all up and this wine is the total package!

Cinderella: Layer Cake Creamy Chardonnay
An elegant wine for an elegant princess. This wine is well-balanced, not too dry or too sweet. The promised cream notes come through very nicely. It’s a wine that’s well-loved and classy, just like Cinderella.

Olivia’s Commentary: This wine has an understated appeal that suits the muted richness of the movie.

Beauty and the Beast: The Dreaming Tree Cabernet Sauvignon
The Dreaming Tree Cabernet Sauvignon is a very nice red wine. It’s rich, heady and romantic; perfect for Beauty and the Beast. It contains luxurious notes of chocolate and oak. I didn’t find it to be exactly sweet, but it’s very flavorful. It would make a great pairing for re-watching Belle and the Beast fall in love in snowy gardens and golden ballrooms.

Olivia’s Commentary: I bet this wine would go great with the gray stuff, but then again, what wouldn’t?

The Little Mermaid: Chloe Rosé
You knew this one had to be a rosé, right? Chloe’s rosé is a youthful, delicate wine; it’s not incredibly strong or overpowering. The blush color is gorgeous. For me, it strangely recalls the sea without being exactly oceanic. Try it and you’ll see what I mean. I think Ariel would love this wine nearly as much as she loves her dinglehopper.

Olivia’s Commentary: There’s something about the label of this wine that is reminiscent of Ariel’s driving/boating dress. It captures the charm of Ariel’s first forays into human fashion.

Aladdin: Ava Grace Vineyards Red Blend
Mysterious, smoldering and sweet. If the Little Mermaid’s wine was subtle, this one is a sensory experience that grabs your attention. I really noticed the notes of spice and fruit. It could have come straight from the bazaars of Agrabah. Not to mention, the bottle is perfect.

Olivia’s Commentary: This wine is as heady and immersive as an Arabian Night!

Sleeping Beauty: Oliver Winery and Vineyards Blueberry Moscato
The blueberry notes in this wine reminded me of Briar Rose’s upbringing in the forest. It’s a juicy sparkling wine that’s almost sure to please. I found it to be an especially easy-to-drink wine that suits the sweet sunniness of Aurora’s personality.

Olivia’s Commentary: This is one wine that both Merryweather and Flora would love, with lovely blue packaging and a striking pink tone for the wine itself.

Thanks for reading our guide to Disney Princess wine pairings! Now the fun part begins: sampling them all!

XO
Sarah (and Olivia)
